Gilean “Gil” Ann Newman

Gilean "Gil" Ann Newman passed away Oct. 22, 2002. While growing up in the Ingomar/Melstone, MT area Gil was active 4-H, FFA, basketball, track, and rodeo.  She attended Miles City Community College on a basketball scholarship and was a member of the rodeo team.  She then went to Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., where Gil competed for the rodeo team and later graduated with a degree in animal science.  Gil went to work for USTRC in Albuquerque, N.M., which led her to the AQHA in Amarillo, Texas, where she was the director of the Recreational Riding Program.

Gilean was working as a merchandising representative for Wrangler in the Torrington, WY area while staying competitive in rodeo and roping’s. She was an Outlaw Rodeo series champion in the breakaway roping as well as the average champion in the mixed team roping at the Wyoming Rodeo Finals. She was a USTRC champion in two events at the Regional Finals in Cheyenne.
